Was having a bonfire with my friend watching the lunar eclipse and just before totality, I saw my buddy looking at the sky with a confused look, I looked up and a giant purple and blue mass of energy, it was what looked like a comet or meteor but far too large, and I had seen my fair share of those. It’s trail had to have been hundreds of miles long. It also seemed fairly close for such a large mass of energy. We watched it for a few seconds and almost as soon as we noticed it, it faded away. Tried to do research on strange sky sightings from that night and there were none. No meteor showers, no comets. No other sightings. To my knowledge my buddy and I are the only ones who saw it.
