Red and Green Blinking Craft - Topsail Island, North Carolina

Approximately 10:00pm. Over dark sky, over the ocean, East of Topsail Island, a red, bright light flew extremely fast from the south to the northern sky, then stopped abruptly and hovered in the same spot for maybe 10 minutes. While hovering, there were red and green blinking, vertical lights. My first thought was a drone except this was extremely high in the sky, way too high to be a drone. It flew (slower), going north/up the coastline towards Surf City, then my grandson said it flew off suddenly to the left/over the land and we didn’t see anything again.
